General strike in Athens for two days

General strike in Athens for two days

48-hour strike comes after parliament prepares to vote announced that the latest round of austerity measures including a new tax increase, pay cuts and losing jobs.

European Union and IMF demanded deep cuts in the currency granting financial aid November 2.

Almost all sectors are hit by the strike, including lifting the garbage companies, their employees and government. Wednesday and Thursday strike is organized by two major unions that cover both the public and the private sector.

Government departments, business industry, offices and shops will be closed. This strike will participate for the first time and small businesses. Air traffic controllers will stop work for 12 hours and public transport, private and state will not work.

Protesters will gather in the Greek parliament where, in June, there were violent clashes between police and the crowd present.

Members of parliament is to vote on these two days November 2 cutting salaries and pensions laws, increase taxes and suspending collective agreements.
